So they are willing to pay MORE then 6.5 Million for Johnson. If this team cries poor later we know where to look first.

For the O's to be tied with the Indians for the 2nd wildcard slot, Johnson would have to have converted all but three of his save opportunities. Do you think that's a reasonable expectation?

He is not good enough. Let him walk! We had the ALDS in our grasp, he failed when it counted most. This is ridiculous really.

fact: Jim Johnson has saved 99 games the last two years

fact: JJ's BABIP this year was .321, 32 points higher than his career average

fact: JJ blew nine saves this year

fact: If the Orioles make JJ an offer and he declines they get a comp pick

opinion: There aren't a lot of better options out there

opinion: JJ cost us the playoffs

fact: There were a lot of factors that conspired to keep the Orioles out of the post season

I didn't expect him to be non-tendered, but I hope they keep the door open to possibly trading him.

And if trading him is the plan, they wouldn't want to give that away.

I'm not among those who believes in paying a lot for a closer, but I also don't believe there is an alternative on the roster right now. Gausman wasn't picked 4th in the draft to be a reliever and Hunter and O'Day both struggle with lefties, Hunter in particular.

Closers need to be able to get out both righties and lefties effectively. Though it's always possible to go matchups until someone emerges as the guy.

      Awesome research, thanks. I was a fan in 1974 but had forgotten that string of five shutouts.  This last two weeks of rotation excellence (and your list) is giving me flashbacks to the summer of love (1967), when I started to make game logs to savor the strings of shutouts and low-hit gems by Oriole starters. Looking back now at the game logs kept by Baseball-Reference (manually, without your sorting skills!), it's hard to identify exactly which streak so impressed my teenage fan-meter, or even which year. Certainly 1968 was all about low scoring league-wide.  Maybe it was the stretch 22-27 May 1967 featuring Phoebus, Bertaina, Barber, McNally, and Phoebus again (good old 4-man rotation!), including three scoreless outings. Or Hardin and Brabender joining Phoebus, McNally and Palmer from 15 to 20 September, 1967. What about 1969, with Cuellar, Lopez and Leonhard joining the previous cast of McNally, Phoebus, and Hardin, twirling 10 starts (13-22 June) while allowing only 12 runs.  Anyway, it feels rather historic to see this run of high-end pitching from an Orioles rotation. Here's a chart to recap the numbers on this streak in progress...       Somehow feels typical of Orioles to play up to the competition, and get burned by the pretenders... same with individual starting pitchers.

      It was very obvious ...he would also take a look at his hand frequently. On Saturday, watching a clip in the dugout after one of the HR's, Kremer went to give a high five, pulled back and took a look at his hand. I thought it strange, and I thought something was off. He always appeared to be one of the more enthusiastic celebrators. It would seem the coaches would notice and probably did, but thought nothing of it. Certainly didn't affect his game.

      I just looked thru their record a while ago.  Series against the Nats (2), White Sox, Marlins, Cardinals, Rockies and Angels makes their record of 1 win better than the O's way less impressive.  Their schedule coming up must be hell.
